Vegetables

All the works were created by students of the A.A. Leonov Technological University and the Institute of Humanitarian Education and Information Technologies (IGUMO), and the exhibition was the fourth consecutive part of the New Monochrome project. Curator Evgeniya Sterlyagova noted that black-and-white photography has recently experienced a new wave of interest from novice authors. This is a rather curious trend that reflects the perception and inner world of a new generation of photographers. The New Monochrome project has been exhibited three times at different venues in Moscow, revealing the vision of young authors in different ways. This time they were invited to work in the genre of still life. The participants of the "VEGETABLES" exhibition do not restore the Dutch still life. His existential message memento mori ("remember death") is replaced by the relevant one for us, "do you remember that you are still alive?" If in a classical still life the objects on the table are laid out with the care of the composer, then here they are literally "stored". Walter Benjamin showed how, in the era of technical reproducibility, an object loses its aura, its unique here-and-now. The authors push the idea to its limits, replacing the table with logistics, and offering the viewer not only the role of an observer, but also that of an element of the exhibition. However, the grid remains a lattice through which something can still be seen. The genre is not dead. It lies dormant, waiting for someone to unwrap it again. Seventeen authors pick up the dead nature and check its pulse. The opening night program will feature a lecture by Roman Putyatin, "The Metaphysics of Cabbage in Timeless Art".
