OPEN CALL Warning Lights

OPEN CALL Warning Lights On June 21, 2025, the Kapustinsky Center for Contemporary Art will host the opening day of the site-specific exhibition "Signal Lights" curated by Evgenia Sterlyagova. The participants were invited to approach the theme of the exhibition broadly and inventively. With the help of lights, flashes, and impulses, participants can establish contact with other modalities, subject and object. Artists are given the opportunity to create works of art capable of performing signaling, navigation, generating, transmitting and receiving functions or effects. Old-timers, founders, members of the artistic council of the Kapustinsky CSI, artists Sergey Katran and Roman Putyatin emphasize the specifics of locations: "Nega Island exists as an autonomous geographical entity, and all projects implemented on its territory become part of it, expanding the symbolic cloud and meta-concept of the island as a free self-aware subject with vision, hearing, the ability to feel and reflex. I would like to see projects that can add subjectivity to the island through movement, sound, light, and any other waves, including gravitational waves, built into explicit, hidden, or hitherto unseen signaling systems. With the help of this creative "wave" of artists and their works, the island will be able to emanate signaling, navigation, generating, transmitting and receiving effects, because no one in this world can be an island — we all bask in the bliss of signals." The announced projects can be implemented in different mediums. They are waiting for the exhibition: light installations work with electrical and sound pulses; using reflective surfaces and materials media projections, video art, sound art installations and facilities Applications for performances and the opening day music program are also accepted (upload a description, photo, video or sound) It is worth considering that the work will be outdoors. It is necessary to take care of their safety in advance during the exhibition period. Installation dates: from 18 to 20 June. The opening day with a limited number of guests (by invitation) will take place on June 21. Dismantling dates: from 22 to 23 June. Installation and dismantling is carried out by the artists, with the assistance of the CCSI at the agreed hours. The opening day will be documented on video. Following the results of the exhibition, a film will be edited, which will premiere in a public space.
